Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak slammed YouTube for not taking down a Bitcoin scam video which used his video in a misleading way to steal money. He was recently talking to CBS News, in which he talked about a scam on YouTube that was using his image to steal the cryptocurrency.

It was Wozniak's wife, Janet, who first got alerted to it from one of the scam victims. She received an email, "When are you gonna send me my money?" Her response was, "What are you talking about?"

The crypto scammers took a video of Wozniak discussing Bitcoin and adding a "nice frame" with a crypto address that said if you send any amount of Bitcoin to an address, you will receive double the amount.

Janet said, "Of course it's fraud." Steve said, "Some people said they lost their life savings."

Despite the hope that YouTube would take down the scam video following multiple requests, Steve claimed it didn't happen at all. "We never got to YouTube; our lawyer has gotten to their lawyer, that's all," he said.

In July 2020, Wozniak sued YouTube on behalf of a number of scam victims who lost money. Though it has been five years since the court case was filed, there has been no apparent progress.

The Apple co-founder said of the computer revolution, which he was a part of, "Well, it was good until the internet came and it offered new business models, you know, ways to have power over other people and control a lot of customers. That's when some of the bad started happening."

With the rise of AI-driven deepfake videos impersonating popular figures, crypto traders need to be ever more cautious while consuming any content.
