Recently, Base held the highly anticipated "A New Day One" launch event, announcing a significant upgrade to its ecosystem. The highlight of this launch event was the official renaming of Coinbase Wallet to Base App, marking a strategic shift for Base from being purely an underlying infrastructure to a "super app" that integrates users, applications, and social features.
Base has achieved a strategic transformation by upgrading its brand from a single chain to an open stack. This brand new stack consists of three synergistic components:
Base Chain: A secure, fast, low-cost Ethereum L2, the newly launched Flashblocks module reduces its effective block time to 200 milliseconds.
Base Build: Provides developers with the tools and support needed to build the next generation on-chain experience.
Base App: As the entry point and front end of the entire ecosystem, built on open protocols.
The Base App is positioned as a "universal application" designed to integrate core functions such as social networking, content creation, asset trading, instant messaging, and daily payments. Its main features include:
The Base App also integrates financial activities with social scenarios, with its chat function supported by the XMTP protocol, enabling end-to-end encryption and decentralization. Users can interact with AI agents in the chat to perform transactions, send funds, and other operations.
On the technical level, Base has effectively reduced the block time from 2 seconds to 200 milliseconds by launching the Flashblocks module, achieving a 10-fold speed increase. Base has also upgraded the Base Account SDK, providing developers with powerful tools, including Base Account, Sign in with Base, Base Pay, and sub-account functions.
The vision of Base is not just to create an application, but to build an open, efficient, and borderless global on-chain economy. Recent collaborations with JPMorgan and Shopify demonstrate that this vision is being accelerated. JPMorgan will pilot a dollar deposit token (JPMD) on Base, while millions of Shopify merchants can choose Base Pay as a payment method.
In addition, Base has partnered with various collaborators across multiple fields, including Erewhon, Perplexity AI, Opyn, etc., continuously expanding its ecosystem.
Base is integrating social, identity, applications, and payments on top of an open underlying protocol, supported by Base Chain technology.
